Caring for rabbits on New Year's Eve: handling fireworks anxiety
What can I do to make my pet less reactive to the fireworks?
Create a Safe Haven:
Rabbits are sensitive to loud noises, and the sudden bursts of fireworks can be super distressing for them. To help your rabbits cope with the noise, design a quiet and secure space within your home where they can seek refuge.
A cozy indoor hutch or a room with their essentials (food, water, and bedding) can provide a sense of safety. You can also choose to place them in a cage for a few hours if you don't have enough space for all their accessoires.
Reduce Noise and Light:
To minimize the impact of fireworks on your rabbits, close windows and curtains to block out the bright flashes and loud sounds. Play soft music or have a TV on at a low volume to provide some soothing background noise.
Provide Distractions:
Offer distractions and toys to keep your bunny occupied. Providing their favorite treats or chew toys can help to distract them for a little while.
Be cautious, though, not to introduce new or unfamiliar items during this time, as it may cause additional stress.
