Look out for poisonous food!

Tons of dogowners feed their furry friends a tasty snack every now and then. And there is nothing wrong with that! You should definitely treat your dog from time to time, but do it in moderation. There are also certain things which you should avoid giving your dog at all costs.

Chocolate

Let's start with one of the most well-known on the list: chocolate. Chocolate contains substances such as theobromine and caffeine, which are harmless to humans but can be highly toxic to dogs.
The harm is actually in the cacao itself, not in the milk or sugar (like many people think). This makes dark chocolate worse than highly processed chocolate.
Symptoms vary from higher blood pressure or increased heart rate to diarrhea, vomiting or, in the worst case, it can result in seizures or even death.

Grapes and raisins

Grapes and raisins contain some (unknown) substances which are poisonous to dogs. Even small amounts of these fruits can cause kidney failure in dogs. Symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea and loss of appetite.

Onions and garlic

Onion and garlic contain substances that can damage dogs' red blood cells, leading to anaemia. Symptoms can include vomiting, diarrhoea, weakness and breathing problems. Even small amounts of onion and garlic can be harmful, so avoid them in all dishes you share with your pet.

Avocado

Avocados contain persin, a substance that can be very harmful to dogs. Although the amount of persin in the flesh is low, eating the peel, pit or leaves can cause severe stomach pain, breathing problems and even death. It is best to leave avocados completely out of your dog's sight.

Nuts

Some nuts, such as macadamia nuts and walnuts, are very toxic to dogs. Eating even a small amount can cause symptoms such as vomiting and fever. Macadamia nuts are seen as the most dangerous ones and should definitely be avoided.
